COL.diesis represents a project (realized by the University of the Balearic Islands) which studies the reality of the blind, the challenges they live with, their psychology and their emotions. Its an exploration of the infinite range of colours that they have either never been able to see or that they have lost the possibility to see. COL.diesis is a tool with which to learn what exactly is represented by the concept of synesthesia: a liaison between colour and sound. It is colour that becomes sound.
Introducing the project into the reality of music therapy, we are presented with an important target: that of blind children aged between 5 and 12.
Finally we propose a device capable of detecting colour and transforming it into musical melodies: a sensor, positioned on a childs finger, iden ...tifies colours and transforms this data into musical notes.
The project, called 'COL.diesis, colour becomes sound is based on two years of theoretical investigation.
1.Firstly a multi-subject investigation at a psycho- pedagogical level was worked on and its principal.
2.Secondly the investigation team carried out an analysis on how to build the proposed device COL.diesis, whose main objective on a technological level is to detect colours and transform this data into musical notes following a recognizable scheme. This work can be divided into three sections:
a)The electronic component: through a colour sensor the device could detect colour and recognise its RGB values;
b)The software component: colours were classified in groups which, once programmed in the device, permit an easy access to the available options and the simple recognition of colour through music.
c)Computer simulation: the possibilities of the device are created as a computer version.
We are now searching for a company who would be interested to take our project on board and make it all come true! Read more
